Summary


King County Parks is seeking an Assistant Aquatic Facility Coordinator to join the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center (WKCAC) team! In this role, you will help influence and contribute to WKCAC Team accomplishments, guide, and grow the skills of staff under your leadership and positively impact the health and well-being of pool patrons while contributing to the mission and goals of King County Parks.

About the Role:

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as an Aquatic Facility Coordinator Assistant. In this role, you will play a key part in the development and coordination of aquatic programs, ensuring they run smoothly and effectively. You will also be responsible for lifeguarding, providing instruction, and assisting with the recruitment and hiring of aquatic staff. Additionally, you will coordinate event support, ensuring all activities are well-organized and executed.

The Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center is one of the premier natatorium arenas in the nation. This 2,500-seat indoor facility hosts more than 50 events annually including top national and international championships. In addition to these competitions, WKCAC serves the local and regional community through team trainings and a full array of recreational programing.

Job Duties

What You Will Be Doing

  • Assist with planning and coordinating the facility's aquatic recreation programs matching King County equity priorities with local and regional community needs. 
  • Assist with managing and participating in day-to-day operations including facility inspections, basic maintenance, and event staging. 
  • Build teams, supervise, coach and mentor staff. Ensure consistent application and compliance with Parks Division and state labor policies. Implement best practices for workplace expectations and performance recognition.
  • Complete administrative duties in a timely fashion including payroll duties, tracking staff work-hour thresholds, tracking staff certifications, planning staff trainings and inservices, coordinating the swimming lesson program, and responding to public inquiries and concerns.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Qualifications You Bring

  • Knowledge of Seattle - King County Department of Health codes and regulations for public swimming facilities.
  • Knowledge of national aquatic sports standards for facilities, equipment and course configurations.
  • Experience supervising a team.
  • Demonstrated customer service and public relations experience.
  • Skill in conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • Experience organizing and scheduling events, trainings, or meetings.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to hear and respond to two-way radio calls in a busy aquatic center environment.
  • Maintain a minimum of 20/40 vision. Use of corrective lenses is acceptable.
  • Ability to perform duties involving physical labor such as bending, kneeling, standing, reaching, climbing, stooping, squatting, pushing, and twisting.

Workplace Exposures: 

  • Will be exposed to loud noises, such as cheering crowds at events and loud pumps or filtration equipment.
  • Will be exposed to chemically treated pool water.
  • Will be exposed to cleaning and janitorial supplies.

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor or the ability to retain one within six months of hiring.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or the ability to retain one within six months of hiring.
  • Northwest Lifeguard Preparation Course or the ability to retain one within one month of hiring.

It Would Be Great if You Also Bring:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Trainer certification.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer certification.

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions:

  • Work Location:Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, 650 SW Campus Dr, Federal Way, WA 98023.
  • Work Schedule: This position works a standard schedule of Saturday - Wednesday from 1:30 PM - 9:30 PM. Please note that this schedule includes weekends and is an evening/night shift. This schedule may vary and change depending on work assignments and events. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
  • Union Representation: This position is not represented by a union.
