The Renewable Gas organization is positioned within the Corporate Sustainability group at Southern Company Gas (“GAS”) and provides leadership across the entire GAS organization related to renewable gas efforts. This position will support renewable gas program efforts, including general support for regulatory filings, program design, implementation, and management, as well as providing support related to voluntary green gas programs at applicable local distribution companies (“LDC”). The successful candidate will have a critical role in the company’s efforts to educate, develop, implement, and administer renewable gas programs and projects, as well as supporting regulatory requirements throughout the Company’s footprint to effectuate the Company’s renewable gas strategy.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work cross-functionally to coordinate and administer green gas voluntary programs at applicable LDCs.
- Lead external communications with companies and customers interested in voluntary programs.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders (e.g., Accounting, Rates, Technology Group, etc.) to administer and manage voluntary programs.
- Support regulatory filings by leading efforts to respond to external and internal data requests, including coordinating stakeholder responses related to renewable gas policies.
- Review, analyze, and summarize complex data to support the development of renewable gas programs or projects.
- Produce regular and ad hoc reports to track program and project milestones and updates.
- Develop presentations, reports, graphs, etc. to effectively communicate the Company’s strategy and implementation efforts.
- Lead interdepartmental groups and committees regarding the implementation of new processes and protocols necessitated by and for voluntary customer programs.
- Research and provide market insights and emerging trends in the renewable gas industry.
- Track environmental and economic benefits associated with renewable gas projects.
- Assist with the coordination of new programming and marketing elements for the Energy Efficiency program in the Southern Ops region.
- Track actual and forecast projected program expenditures for the Energy Efficiency program in the Southern Ops region and provide recommendations on timing and breadth of marketing expenditures based on historical program uptake and program objectives.
- Travel potentially up to 10% of the time, including out-of-state.
Education
- Four-year degree strongly preferred
- Bachelors degree in Business, Engineering or Finance preferred.
- Previous project management experience and/or engineering experience a plus.
- Minimum 2 years work experience.
- Gas utility experience preferred.
- Familiarity with standards, methodologies, protocols, and calculations for greenhouse gas accounting a plus.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent communication skills – oral, written, and interpersonal required.
- Organizational skills, strategic and analytical thinking skills required.
- Skills in business plan development, program cost accounting and economic analysis, as well as contractor/consultant management preferred.
- Demonstrated technical aptitude with the ability to understand and apply that aptitude to natural gas operations as well as renewable gas projects and programs.
- Broad understanding of sustainability landscape, ESG metrics and renewable gas industry trends.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
- Possess effective project management skills.
